The State of New York is suing The Weinstein Company for failing to protect its employees from Harvey Weinstein.

The lawsuit alleges that Weinstein sexually abused female employees and made verbal threats to kill staff members.

It also accuses senior executives at the company of failing to prevent the mistreatment of staff despite being presented with evidence.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is filing the lawsuit against The Weinstein Company as well as brothers Harvey and Robert Weinstein who co-founded the company.

He is seeking an unspecified sum to cover damages for victims of alleged abuse by Harvey Weinstein.

The Weinstein Company has said it is “disappointed” by the lawsuit and stated: “Many of the allegations related to the board are inaccurate and the board looks forward to bringing the facts to light as part of its ongoing commitment to resolve this difficult situation in the most appropriate way.”

The Education Department has said it will no longer investigate complaints from transgender students who are prevented from using the bathroom/locker room that aligns with their gender identity: “where students, including transgender students, are penalised or harassed for failing to conform to sex-based stereotypes, that is sex discrimination prohibited by Title IX. In the case of bathrooms, however, longstanding regulations provide that separating facilities on the basis of sex is not a form of discrimination prohibited by Title IX.”

All other complaints filed by transgender students will continue to be investigated.

Asma Jahangir, the Pakistani human rights activist and lawyer, has died at the age of 66.

She was a staunch defender of human – and women’s – rights and a pro-democracy activist.

She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.

Malala Yousafzai called Ms Jahangir a “saviour of democracy and human rights”.

Oxfam is to set up an independent commission to investigate recent claims of sexual exploitation.

Executive Director Winnie Byanyima gave this apology: “I’m appointing a high-level, independent commission that will look into our culture and our practices and make recommendations to make us stronger at protecting our people. We are going to create a vetting system. What happened in Haiti and afterwards is a stain on Oxfam that will shame us for years, and rightly so. From the bottom of my heart I am asking for forgiveness.”

Alexandra Raisman, ex-USA gymnast and a survivor of Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse, has posed naked for a Sports Illustrated photo shoot with the words “women do not have to be modest to be respected” written on her body, along with the words “fierce”, “trust yourself” and “survivor”.

She posted the photo on social media with this message: “Women do not have to be modest to be respected — Live for you! Everyone should feel comfortable expressing themselves however makes them happy. Women can be intelligent, fierce, sexy, powerful, strong, advocate for change while wearing what makes them feel best. The time where women are taught to be ashamed of their bodies is OVER. The female body is beautiful and we should all be proud of who we are, inside and out.”

Aly is one of the many survivors who gave a testimony against Nassar earlier this year during which she said: “Imagine feeling like you have no power and no voice. Well you know what Larry. I have both power and voice and I am only beginning to use them.”

On February 14th #metoo hoped to flood the internet with love, support and encouragement for survivors by sharing a #SurvivorLoveLetter on social media.

I want to share mine:

Dear Survivor ?

It wasn’t your fault.
You didn’t want it to happen.
You were told if you tell anybody you won’t be believed.
But that’s not true.
I believe you.
I know it wasn’t your fault.
You’re not on your own with this.
I’m a survivor too.
We survived our sexual assaults but they changed us.
We turned into brave warriors and fight for ourselves and each other.
We gained superpowers that enable us to carry on “as normal” even when it feels like we’re falling apart inside.
We have courage, strength, compassion, unity and so much love for each other.
And we try sooo hard to be kind to ourselves.
Welcome to the survivor family.
I love you.
