Elizabeth Warren has announced she is establishing an exploratory committee to consider a 2020 presidential run.
In a video address posted on social media this week the progressive Massachusetts Senator outlined her vision: “Every person in America should be able to work hard, play by the same set of rules, and take care of themselves and the people they love. That’s what I’m fighting for, and that’s why I’m launching an exploratory committee for president. I need you with me.”
Nancy Pelosi has been sworn in as Speaker of the House, becoming not only the third most powerful US politician but also the leader of the Trump opposition.
Indeed, she is the most powerful woman in US politics.
She will be responsible for initiating new laws through the lower chamber of Congress and guiding new investigations into Trump.
To quote the BBC Ms Pelosi will also have to “balance the competing priorities of her Democratic caucus while facing incoming flames from the political Vesuvius that is Donald Trump.”
Pope Francis has said that the credibility of the Catholic Church in the US has been severely damaged by the ongoing child sexual abuse scandal.
In a letter delivered to US bishops the Pope said that efforts to cover up the abuse had caused even greater harm.
He also urged the bishops to end internal bickering and show unity as they try to tackle the crisis.
