Judge Rosemarie Aquilina
The biggest news story this week has to be the sentencing of the former USA Gymnastics and MSU doctor, Larry Nassar, by Judge Rosemarie Aquilina to 175 years in prison.

Over seven days Judge Rosemarie listened to 156 survivors speak about their experiences of sexual abuse at the hands of Nassar during their victim impact statements, and she offered personal responses to each woman.

At the sentencing Judge Rosemarie said: “I’ve just signed your death warrant. I find that you don’t get it, that you’re a danger. That you remain a danger.”

Many of the survivors said that when they had tried to speak up about what was happening to them they had been ignored or silenced by USA Gymnastics, Michigan State University and/or the US Olympic Committee.

So far five directors of the USAG board have resigned and the USOC has said the entire 18 member board must step down by 31st January or it will lose its status as a sports governing body.

Two MSU officials have resigned and Mark Hollis, the Michigan State athletic director stepped down from his position.

The USOC gave a statement apologising for failing to stop Nassar’s abuse and for its inadequate response at his trial.

It ended: “We are sorry for the pain caused by this terrible man, and sorry that you weren’t afforded a safe opportunity to pursue your sports dream. The Olympic family is among those that have failed you.”

Casey Affleck
Casey Affleck, winner of last year’s Best Actor and due to present this year’s Best Actress, has withdrawn from the Oscars.

He was sued for sexual harassment in 2010 by two female crew members but the lawsuits were settled out of court.

Amanda White claimed Affleck refused to pay her salary because she would not spend the night in his hotel room and Magdalena Gorka alleged that Affleck got into bed with her as she slept.

Affleck still denies these allegations.

Steve Wynn
Steve Wynn resigned from his position as finance chairman of the Republican National Committee amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

He denies allegations printed in The Wall Steet Journal: “The idea that I ever asssaulted any woman is preposterous. We find ourselves in a world where people can make allegations, regardless of the truth, and a person is left with the choice of weathering insulting publicity or engaging in multi-year lawsuit. It is deplorable for anyone to find themselves in this situation.”

Patrick Meehan
Patrick Meehan has said he will not run for re-election to Congress after it was revealed he settled a sexual harassment complaint by using tax funds.

He allegedly paid the former aide 30 years his junior who he referred to as his “soulmate” but denies the allegations of harassing her.

Finally, Trump seemed not to understand last weekend’s Women’s March.

He tweeted: “Beautiful weather all over our great country, a perfect day for all women to March.

Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months.

Lowest female unemployment in 18 years!”

In response House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi tweeted: “who wants to tell him?”
