Time's Up
More than 1,000 women in the entertainment industry have unveiled a plan to combat sexual harassment.

Time’s Up was officially launched this week, although the group was formed shortly after the first allegations of sexual misconduct were made against Harvey Weinstein.

The New York Times published an open letter in which the mission of Time’s Up was laid out.

The women intend to use their platform in entertainment to fight for equality for all women and have already put together a $13 million fund to subsidise legal support for “women and men who have experienced sexual harassment, assault or abuse in the workplace”.

“We want all survivors of sexual harassment, everywhere, to be heard, to be believed, and to know that accountability is possible.”

Peter Martins
Peter Martins, leader of the New York City Ballet since 1990, has retired amid allegations of sexual harassment and physical and verbal abuse from dancers dating back to 1993.

He was placed on leave in December pending an investigation.

In his resignation letter Martins denied the allegations claiming they had been a “disruption” to the ballet.

He also stated that he had “co-operated fully” in the investigation which would have “vindicated him”.

Andrew Creighton and Mike Germano
Vice Media has suspended its president, Andrew Creighton, and chief digital officer, Mike Germano, over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Two weeks ago The New York Times published an article exposing multiple accounts of sexual harassment and assault within the company in which both executives were named.

Vice UK published an open letter: “we stand in solidarity with all the survivors who have come forward. We believe them, and we believe that urgent change is necessary to make our workplace a fairer and safer place for all employees.”

H. Brandt Ayers
H. Brandt Ayers, former publisher of The Anniston Star in Alabama, has resigned as chairman of the company that owns the newspaper after several reporters accused him of historical sexual misconduct.

He admitted to spanking two women – one in the newsroom, the other in her home although he claims a doctor told him to do so – in 1970s.

His initial response to the allegations: “As a very young man with more authority than judgment, I did some things I regret.”

Prabhu Ramamoorthy
Prabhu Ramamoorthy, a 34-year-old Indian national living in US on a temporary visa, has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse after sexually assaulting the sleeping woman seated next to him on an overnight flight.

The 22-year-old woman, whose name has been withheld, told investigators that she woke up to find her pants and shirt unbuttoned and the man’s hand inside her pants.

She reported the assault to the flight attendants who kept her with them at the back of the plane as she was crying and her shirt and pants were undone.

Ramamoorthy was arrested when the plane landed.

He and his wife (who had been sitting on the other side of him during the flight) claim he had taken a pill (Tylenol) and fallen into a deep sleep, however he went on to give “conflicting reports” about what happened.

Federal prosecutor Amanda Jawad said of his wife: “It seems that she’s either colluding with the defendant to cover up his actions or she’s completely oblivious to what he did.”

MILCK
This week the lovely and super talented musician MILCK (aka Connie Lim) released the title track of her EP This Is Not The End – the rest of the EP is released on January 19th.

MILCK wrote this song in 2016: “as a mantra to myself to keep going, and to persist in my belief that art, dreams, love, and goodness can survive in the world. And to persist in my hope that I could manifest my inner visions of who I could be.”

Like many of her other songs, This Is Not The End continued to grow: “When I play the song now, though, the song takes on a bigger meaning outside of just my life. This song is about all of us. We are rising, and there is so much proof that we are capable of creating the world we desire. The proof is in all the emails and messages of stories I receive from you all. You guys remind me that there is a world of survivors and fighters, looking to fight. To ascend. To heal. To rise.”
