Dr Christine Blasey Ford
Dr Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, gave a credible, exacting and unshakeable testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Dr Ford went on to answer questions posed by Democrats and also by Rachel Mitchell, a sex-crimes prosecutor who was hired so that the Committee’s eleven male Republicans would not have to ask them.

Dr Ford remained calm and dignified throughout the ordeal, describing the sexual assault in harrowing detail and replying fully and honestly to every question.

She remained honest when asked about things she did not remember, explaining that the precise details of a trauma get burned into the brain and stay there long after less relevant details fade away.

Dr Ford gained nothing by coming forward, only doing so because she felt it was the right thing to do.

She is now in hiding with her family in the face of death threats.

Kavanaugh’s testimony did not go so well.

He spent more than half an hour raging against the Senate Democrats and the “Left” for “totally and permanently destroying his name, his career, his family, his life.”

He called his confirmation process a “national disgrace”.

He gave misleading answers to questions, avoided answering other questions and lied in response to yet more questions.

And he repeatedly insisted that others Dr Ford named as attending the gathering where the sexual assault took place “said it didn’t happen” – even though one of them told a reporter that she believes Dr Ford.

After the testimonies of Dr Ford and Kavanaugh the Senate Judiciary Committee voted that Kavanaugh’s nomination should go through to the Senate Floor but that there will be a one week delay for the FBI to investigate the allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh.

Trump then instructed the FBI to conduct the investigation.

Less than a week before the Senate Judiciary Committee took place, Deborah Ramirez, who was at Yale with Kavanaugh, made allegations of sexual assault against him.

Ms Ramirez claims that Kavanaugh thrust his penis in her face at a dormitory party and caused her to touch it without her consent as she pushed him away.

She recalls other students laughing at her and taunting her to “kiss it” and another male student shouting down the hall: “Brett Kavanaugh just put his penis in Debbie’s face!”

The FBI will also look into this as part of the investigation.

In other news, Bill Cosby has been sentenced to between three and ten years in jail for sexual assault.

He has also been categorised as a sexually violent predator which means he must undergo therapy for the rest of his life and be listed on the sex offender registry.

Judge Steven O’Neill said: “This was a serious crime. Mr Cosby this has all circled back to you. The day has come, the time has come.”

He told Ms Constand that he had “heard the very clear impact” the assault had on her life.
