Abolish ICE
The Women’s March and its partners organised a mass civil disobedience to demand the safety and freedom of immigrant families and children and an end to Trump’s zero-tolerance policy of criminalising undocumented immigrants and removing their children.

They also called on congress to abolish ICE.

Tens of thousands of people took part in over 630 events across the US using the hashtag #familiesbelongtogether.

Actress Susan Sarandon was one of 575 women arrested at a sit-in in support of migrants at a US senate building.

Many women chanted “we care” in response to Melania Trump’s “I really don’t care do you?” jacket.

Democrat Representative Pramila Jayapal, who was also detained, described the policy on children being separated from their parents as cruel.

Digital rights campaigners have started a legal challenge to the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation said the “poorly written” FOSTA can hinder attempts to help victims and prosecute traffickers as well as trespass on free speech laws.

It also puts those who call for decriminalisation of sex work, or who try to establish greater recognition for prostitutes at risk of prosecution.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28 year old millennial, has defeated political veteran Joe Crowley in the Democrat Party’s congressional primary in NYC.

She will face Republican candidate Anthony Pappas in the November mid-terms and if she wins will be the youngest woman elected to Congress.

Justice Anthony Kennedy, a conservative who provided key votes for same-sex marriage, abortion access and affirmative action, will retire from the Supreme Court on July 31.

Trump is likely to replace him with a “pro-life” judge, as he promised during his campaign, and many women are fearful about what Kennedy’s retirement means for abortion: “with one more Supreme Court vote, the Conservative minority in this country will have the power to uphold laws designed to force pregnant women into motherhood…it could drive abortion – a practice as old as the human race – back underground to unsafe and unclean places.”
